T3h Shred Boiz: Wtf

This here is some impressive stuff. While perusing the official Gorod forum, I discovered this chap pimping his music. I listened to a sample track, figured I liked it, and asked for a CD. A couple of days later, and I’m listening to a completely instrumental, eight track disc comprising an amalgam of musical styles, you can tell that the two members of T3h Shred Boiz listen to a fuckload of metal bands, yet they write their material incorporating all these influences without anything sounding forced – and it’s all very, very tasteful too, not a moment of musical masturbation, as complex as this stuff is.
Obvious bands from which these guys derive their music include the aforementioned Gorod (technical death metal with a lot of sweet riffing and tasty leads), Meshuggah (polyrhythms and such – just listen to “Chugronomicon”), In Flames (some of the acoustic folk stuff off older album), Arcturus (the eccentric synth), Dillinger Escape Plan (a lot of that math madness), Iron Maiden, Dragonforce and some black metal in the vein of Emperor. T3h Shred Boiz also bring to mind Beneath the Massacre (without the shitness), and a couple of all-instrumental death metal bands such as Sleep Terror and Electro Quaterstaff.
Of course, with the band name being what it is, and track titles such as “Ultra Dimensional Time Warp Space Rape” and “Rasputin’s Magical Penis Goes on a Picnic”, it would be very easy to confuse T3h Shred Boiz with a parody band. In some ways you would be correct, a lot of these things do rip the piss a little out of the excesses of metal music, but on the other hand, the musicianship is top-notch, and your unlikely to find better even from the bands these guys draw their inspiration from – much like Crotchduster.
I don’t know how seriously the members of T3h Shred Boiz are taking things, this could be a “doing this in our spare-time” kinda deal, but I’ll be one of the first to express my disappointment if such is the case. These guys could really use a label with which to sign, as I’m sure they would appeal to a whole bunch of tech-nuts as well as the few out there who like death metal but can’t stand the vocals.
